Grier, a two-way power forward who's
dangerous around the net, was drafted by the St. Louis |
Blues in the ninth round (219th
overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. That came at the start |
of a celebrated three-year career
(1993-96) at Boston University. In 1994-95, Grier earned |
Hockey East All-Star and first-team
All-America honors while helping lead the Terriers to the |
NCAA National Championship.
That season, Grier tallied 29 goals and 26 assists in 37 |
games. On Aug 4, 1995 St.
Louis traded his rights to Edmonton along with Curtis Joseph for |
1st round choices in 1996 and 1997.
The winger broke in with Edmonton in 1996-97, scoring |
15 goals and dishing out 17 assists
in 79 games. He beat Patrick Roy on the power play |
Oct. 26, 1996, for his first NHL
goal. In 2001-02, Grier registered eight goals and 17 assists |
in 82 games. |
