Even though he made great strides, Bennett found himself out of the Blackhawks' plans for the 1993-94 season.  After failing to dress for the Hawks' season opener versus the expansion Florida Panthers, Bennett was dealt the next day to the Edmonton Oilers for center Kevin Todd.
On a crowded Oilers blue line that saw eleven different players suit up to play defence, Bennett got into a career-high 48 contests, notching his only three NHL goals and nine points.
Bennett's season with the Oilers would prove to be the highlight of his career.  The following year Bennett was limited to just ten games, all of them in the AHL with the Cape Breton Oilers.  His final season of pro hockey came the next year, 1994-95, when he played just five games with the Richmond Renegades of the East Coast Hockey League.
