Oilers record their 1,000th NHL win, a 4-1 victory at home vs. Florida.  With the win the Oilers became the 18th franchise in NHL history to record 1,000 regular season victories.  The Oilers attained the milestone in their 2,115th game, becoming the third-fastest team in league history to reach the milestone.  Only Philadelphia (2,018) and Montreal (2,064) have done it faster.

Oilers defeat Chicago Blackhawks 11-2, tying the Record (at that time) for most goals by one team in a playoff game.

Oilers defeat Chicago Blackhawks 7-3, establishing then-record 12-game playoff game winning streak. Streak began May 15, 1984, continuing through first two series of 1985 playoffs, plus the first two games of the Conference Final vs. Chicago.

 

This game also establishes a new NHL record for the fastest three goals by both teams - 21 seconds: Behn Wilson scored for Chicago at 19:22 of the third period, JARI KURRI at 19:36 and GLENN ANDERSON at 19:43 scored for Edmonton.

PETR KLIMA scores 15:13 into the third overtime period to give the Oilers a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins, and a 1-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Finals. It is the longest game in Finals history.

Oilers defeat Chicago Blackhawks 8-2 in Conference Final, establishing an NHL Playoff record for most goals in a playoff series, outscoring Chicago 44-25. The 69 total goals is also an NHL Record for most goals by both teams in a series. JARI KURRI scores 4 goals, giving him his third three-or-more-goal game of the series, a new NHL record. Kurri also sets a new record for most goals in a series, with 12 total.

Oilers win their fifth Stanley Cup, their first away from home. BILL RANFORD ties GRANT FUHR'S record for wins by a goaltender in one playoff year.

Paul Coffey records 3 assists in first period as well, tying the record for most assists in one period of a Stanley Cup Final game. Both players' 3 points ties the record for most points in one period.

Oilers win their fourth Stanley Cup. WAYNE GRETZKY'S final game as an Edmonton Oiler. The win gives GRANT FUHR a new record for wins in one year by a goaltender - 16. Gretzky also sets a new record with 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists) in Finals. His 10 assists also sets another record for most assists in a four-game series. He also has 6 powerplay assists, tying the record.

Oilers win their second Stanley Cup. WAYNE GRETZKY named Conn Smythe winner, while JARI KURRI ties Reg Leach's record with his 19th goal of the playoffs. KEVIN MCCLELLAND sets new Playoff Record for most penalty minutes in one game with 29; 25 of them in third period - another record. WAYNE GRETZKY (7-4-11) and PAUL COFFEY (3-8-11) establish a new record for most points in a five-game series, with 11 each. Coffey's 11 points sets new record for most points in a series by a defenseman. His 8 assists ties the record for most assists in a five-game series.

Oilers win their third Stanley Cup, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 in game seven. At the time it is the latest date in NHL history for a Stanley Cup win. Oilers select RW JANI RITA in the first round, 13th overall, of the NHL entry draft.

Oilers trade minor league D CRAIG MILLAR to the Nashville Predators for a 3rd-round draft pick in the 1999 NHL entry draft.  The Oilers used the draft pick to select Edmonton-area C MIKE COMRIE, who joins his brother Paul in the Oilers' organization.

Oilers acquire center FREDRIK LINDQVIST as well as a fifth and a sixth-round draft pick in the 1998 NHL entry draft from the New Jersey Devils for a 1998 third-round pick.
