Drafted by St. Louis in the second round (27th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, Staios was dealt to Boston with Kevin Sawyer in exchange for Steve Leach before skating a shift for the Blues.
He made his debut in a Bruins sweater March 21, 1996 at Ottawa, while also skating in 11 other NHL games that season.
A versatile player, who can play right wing or defense, Staios scored his first goal December 21, 1996 against Washington.
He was selected by Vancouver off waivers on March 18, 1997, and scooped up by Atlanta in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft.
After scoring nine goals and adding 13 assists in 2001-02, Staios signed with the Edmonton Oilers.

Scouting Report (from TSN):
Assets: Loves to play a crash-and-bang style.  Is an excellent leader, versatile and capable of playing a sound defensive game.
Flaws: Is occasionally lost on the ice, mainly due to years of shuttling back and forth between forward and defense.  Can take the odd bad penalty.
Career potential: Staios will continue to put out an honest effort along the Oilers blueline.  His long-term future is on the third defense pairing but he may be needed as a top-four rearguard until some of the kids are ready.
