Originally drafted by
the San Jose Sharks with the 115th selection of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft,
Swanson moved to the Edmonton Oilers after inking a free-agent deal August
20, 1999. |
Swanson played four years for Colorado
College, (1995-96 to 1998-99) netting more than 50 points each season. |
He earned All-America honors twice
and was named a Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-Star four times. |
The center was the co-MVP of the
AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs in 2000-01, scoring 47 points (18 goals and 29
assists). |
Swanson made his NHL debut on October
6, 2000 against the Detroit Red Wings and scored his first goal 11 nights
later, against the Boston Bruins. |

Scouting Report
(from TSN): |
Assets: Plays
a cerebral game, with or without the puck. Is a good playmaker, hard
worker and sound at both ends of the ice. |
Flaws: Lacks
the scoring skills to fill a role on the top two lines. Isn't much
of a goal-scorer and has limited defensive ability. |
Career potential:
Swanson
will try to earn another ticket to Edmonton. He may find a role on
the fourth line down the road but will need to make adjustments at the
NHL level. |
