Edmonton selected Smyth sixth overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft after the winger notched 244 points in 188 games during three seasons with Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League.
The talented scorer made his debut with the Oilers the following season, January 22, 1995 against Los Angeles.
His first goal came during a power play Nov. 24, 1995 against Calgary's Trevor Kidd.
In 1996-97, Smyth tied for 13th in the NHL with 39 goals, netting 20 with the man advantage.
That total tied him for the League lead with Brendan Shanahan and earned him a spot in the Oilers' record book with Wayne Gretzky for most power-play goals in a season.
Smyth scored 15 goals in 2001-02, finishing in double figures for the sixth consecutive season.

Scouting Report (from TSN):
Assets: Has underrated playmaking skills.  Goes to the net with ample vigour and scores the majority of his goals due to supreme determination.  Is strong along the boards and displays a sound overall game.
Flaws: His style of play often leads to serious injuries.  Doesn't have an abundance of natural talent.
Career potential: Smyth's game has evolved since losing playmaking center Doug Weight on his line.  He's taken on a greater leadership role as well.  Smyth will continue to be the heart and soul of the Oilers for the foreseeable future.
