The Edmonton Oilers drafted Horcoff in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.  At the time, Horcoff was in the middle of a four-year stint at Michigan State, which he finished with 152 points (50 goals, 102 assists) in 155 games from 1996-00.  The center jumped to professional hockey in 2000-01, splitting the season between the AHL and NHL.  With Edmonton, Horcoff notched nine goals, seven assists and was a plus-8 in 49 games.  In 2001-02, Horcoff spent all but two contests in the NHL, collecting eight goals and 14 assists in 61 games.

Scouting Report (from TSN):
Assets: A sound positional player and works hard at all aspects of his game. Has good puck-handling skills and offensive upside. Can line up either at left wing or center.
Flaws: Needs to be quicker in his decision-making in order to apply his offensive game in the faster pace of the NHL. Must also use his size more to his advantage.
Career potential: If he can make a few adjustments to his game, Horcoff could become a better- than-average second-liner for the Oilers. His work ethic and versatility should ensure a role with the squad regardless of whether he finds a scoring touch, however.
