Right-winger Blair MacDonald spent parts of four seasons in the NHL beginning in 1979-80.  He played most of his pro career in the WHA, but was best known for his scoring exploits during his brief time on the same line with Wayne Gretzky.

Born in Cornwall, Ontario, MacDonald was taken 86th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 1973 after scoring 63 goals for the Royals of the QMJHL.  He was named to the league's second all-star team, then started his pro career with the Edmonton Oilers of the WHA.

After scoring 21 goals as a rookie in 1973-74, MacDonald was a consistent offensive threat in the league for another five seasons.  In December 1976 he was traded to the Indianapolis Racers and was a top point producer through the 1977-78 season.  MacDonald returned to Edmonton and notched consecutive 34-goal seasons and was named to the WHA second all-star team in 1979.

The clever winger remained with the Oilers when they joined the NHL in 1979-80.  He scored 46 goals while playing on one of the NHL's most exciting lines with Wayne Gretzky and Brett Callighen.  He dropped to 19 goals the next season and lost his job alongside Gretzky to young Finnish star Jari Kurri.  Prior to the trade deadline in March, 1981, MacDonald was traded to the Vancouver Canucks.
